Chris Hill loves how BPAY makes paying bills so easy. A Sydneysider in his early 30s, Chris is an account manager for an advertising agency, so is constantly on the go.
“I’ve known about BPAY since I first became responsible for paying my own bills a dozen or so years ago,” he says. “It was listed as a payment option on the back of my first mobile phone bill.”
He quickly learned to appreciate the simplicity of setting up and paying all his bills using BPAY.
“I didn’t have to queue up at the post office with a stack of papers – I could access everything I needed online through my online banking.”
Although he describes himself as an early adopter who is very comfortable online, Chris says he still remains keenly aware of security issues associate with making online payment transactions.
“The fact I could use BPAY through my online banking appealed to me from the start for that peace of mind of knowing my bank’s systems were secure,” he says.
“I like the aspect that BPAY is a third party standing between my bank account and the biller.
“It’s a brand I trust to keep my payments secure with all the bills that have to be dealt with in daily life.”
He found it easy to set up BPAY and get started through his Westpac online bank account.
“Once all my biller details were entered, I was ready to go.
“The biller has a dedicated biller code that makes it easy for me to see I am transferring funds to the right organisation.”
He values the way BPAY is integrated into his online banking profile, alongside all his real-time statement information.
That means he can pay bills to suit his own circumstances. It’s so flexible.
“I make payments when my salary goes into my bank account or at a time of my choosing.
I prefer that to direct debit where I have to ensure funds are in my account on a particular date for a direct debit.”
There is flexibility around funding methods too. “I can select the account I use to pay certain billers – a savings account or a credit card account, for instance.”
And when Westpac introduced a mobile app, Chris quickly moved to using BPAY at any time of the day or night, instead of only on his laptop at home.*
“Four or five years ago I switched from online payments to paying bills on my mobile. I can now make payments wherever I want, whenever it suits me.
“Now I can pay bills on the go using the Westpac app on my mobile phone.”
He says Westpac has upgraded the app from time to time. “It’s been updated again fairly recently to be even more user-friendly.”
In future, Chris would love to see BPAY introduce real-time funds transfers.
“As features like ‘tap and go’ become mainstream, it makes sense that people expect ever faster methods of transferring money.
“Instant payments would be great,” he says.
Chris is off to New York to begin a new chapter in his career. “But I’ll still use BPAY for all my payment commitments here in Australia,” he says.
“It’s so secure and simple, wherever I am on the planet!”
